Ornellaia 2020 Bolgheri DOC Superiore Rosso Tenuta dell'Ornellaia, a unique red wine, composed of Cabernet Sauvignon 50%, Merlot 32%, Cabernet Franc 13% and Petit Verdot 5%.
The 2020 vintage was characterized by a mild and rainy winter, despite the short period in which temperatures dropped below 0°C in March, the gems were not damaged. The remnants of spring continued flowering regularly. The torrid summer alternating with heavy rains however allowed for full and correct ripening of the grapes.
The Ornellaia 2020 harvest began with Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon on 17 September with hand-picking in 15 kg boxes and the bunches were carefully selected and subjected to soft pressing.
Each variety was vinified separately, the alcoholic fermentation took place partly in stainless steel vats and partly in cement vats at 26-30°C for a week, followed by maceration for about 15 days. The malolactic fermentation took place in oak barrels (70% new and 30% second passage).
The wine remained in barriques in the Ornellaia cellar at a controlled temperature for about 18 months. After the first 12 months, the blending was carried out and then reintroduced into the barriques, where it spent another 6 months. Finally the wine is bottled and kept in the Ornellaia cellar for another 12 months before being marketed.
The color of Ornellaia 2020 is the classic intense red, the nose perceives aromas of ripe red fruits, vanilla and sweet tobacco. On the palate we find it soft and velvety, enveloping. The tannin is dense and elegant with a savory and persistent finish.
